Work-life balance also starts from the top. There have been times when I dreaded having a single boss because that person had no home life. The boss stayed late in the office, and word passed down the chain that others were expected to stay late as well, even if there was nothing left to do. Leaving on time showed lack of dedication, which was reflected on performance reports. In those cases, corporate culture made busy time good.
