As Dr. Stephanie Miaco explained, being a healthcare worker entails belief that they are always available, which extracts a toll on a fulfilling profession.

“Care workers tend to have long, irregular hours,” she said. “Work overload also becomes part of the problem.

“Fortunately, we are not alone,” Miaco said. “Help is always available, should we need it.”

A psychiatrist from Dumaguete City, the Philippines, she advocates in mental health and how to improve delivery of mental health services for all.

Growth of Technology Poses Challenges for Healthcare Everywhere

Miaco talked with Dr. Alberto Ong Jr. and Dr. Helen Madamba about best ways medical providers can be available for patients.

Ong is a member of the Philippine Society of Public Health Physicians and a Samar Doctor to the Barrio, a group formed to address the shortage of physicians practicing medicine in rural provinces and. communities in the Philippines.

Madamba is an OB-GYN infectious disease specialist at Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City, the Philippines.
